Twin Villas
Vadakara, Kozhikode District
The site for this project is a typical suburban locality with individual houses built in compact plots adjacent to each other. The clients, who are two NRI business partners, planned to build their own villas together in their hometown of Vadakara, near Calicut. The rectangular site, having an access road only from the shorter side, was challenging with regard to the privacy and spaciousness that the clients wished for.
The design addresses this by planning a shared internal driveway leading up to the gates of each plot and having car parking to each corner of the respective sub plots. The seemingly conflicting requirements of compactness, privacy and open planning was achieved by designing individual water bodies acting as buffer elements between the interior and the exterior, and planning living & dining spaces adjacent to these. On the exterior sides of the water bodies are planned outdoor dining/ leisure decks that also act as a visual barrier and provide required privacy to the interior spaces. Seating spaces adjacent to the water bodies give a sense of space and enhance the interior comfort by cooling the ample ventilation and air flow through the villas.
