Private Villa
Parakkadavu, Kozhikode district

This is a proposed scheme for a young business family who wanted their new house to entertain guests as well as to serve as a retreat for themselves and their kids to rejuvenate and relax in.

The public and common spaces were zoned at the ground level, and the bedrooms and other personal spaces were on the upper levels.

The first floor, being essentially a cluster of bedrooms (with attached bathrooms) connected by corridors, was visualized as an open, green ‘garden’ of sorts where the passages were conceived as ‘walkways’ in a garden. Open green areas, seating and leisure spaces were thus planned in these in-between spaces, making the house feel closer to a ‘garden resort’ than a conventional villa.

Most spaces are provided with large, glazed openings that can slide open when required, further protected from the sun and rain through operable louvered shutters serving as external ‘curtains’ to the full-sized glass openings, passively controlling the interior heat gain and providing for ample natural ventilation.
