Studio Apartment, Palolem, Goa

Converting an apartment space of 40 square metres of floor area (430 sq.ft) into a 60 square meter (around 650 sq.ft) studio apartment home (with an additional mezzanine floor) has much more to offer than a conventional interior decoration project.

Our simple approach to designing a studio apartment is to create a functional layout with a unifying design layer and to make sure the client (a senior academician) gets the maximum output from the space, expressing its maximum potential.

The mezzanine area is a private space with a sliding panel which resembles a Japanese Shoji screen, which is translucent and typically acts as a privacy screen, which defines the bed space behind that. The existing RCC toilet slab is used as an elevated bed space on the mezzanine. All the lights are warm / reflecting on the ceiling (except the reading lights) and all the lighting and electrical works are smartly integrated with the additional steel structure we’re proposing.

The existing kitchen is redesigned with an island counter serving as a dining space as well as a preparation area. This results in an efficient utilization of the available space within the compact apartment.
